This March, in concurrence with Recyclemania, we will showcase a variety of new lifestyle choices to reduce your waste consumption. Our first feature stars Keanna Chang, a Human Biology, Health and Society major in class of 2018. As a member of the ECO house, and Cornell's Society of Natural Resources Conservation (SNRC), she is inspired to reach zero waste. The goal of zero waste consumption is to send nothing to landfill, meaning you reuse and recycle everything you can.
Reducing waste may not just be about helping the planet, but being aware of what you use on a daily basis. (Ask yourself: how many trash bags do you go through in one week?) It is not an easy feat, especially with all the challenges in knowing what is or is not recyclable. However, even a little more knowledge can help you. Keanna's technique is to stay organized with her personal DIY recycling center that she keeps under her dorm bed. Check out our video to see how it's done, and follow this link to find public recycling stations all around campus! Did You Know? In 2014, Cornell University produced 3342.57 tons (1 ton = 2,000 pounds) of landfill waste.
